Metadynea - 20 years on its path of leadership

On March 3, 2024, Metadynea celebrates the anniversary of the 20 years since its foundation. During this time, the company has become an integral part of the country’s chemical industry, reliably connecting the producers of raw materials and the producers of final consumer goods.

Over two decades, Metadynea has undergone many transformations that have conduced to its stable development. Many of these changes have become pivotal moments for the company's workers and partners, created new production lines, jobs and stimulated the development of the infrastructure of the production sites.

Metadynea was founded on March 3, 2004 as a joint Russian-Finnish company. Its founders were the leaders in their chemical industry areas – Metafrax OJSC (Russia) and Dynea Chemicals Oy (Finland). In the same year, in October, the first production site was opened in Gubakha (Perm region) and the production of urea-formaldehyde resins was launched.

The history of the second production site in Orekhovo-Zuevo (Moscow region) began with the foundation of Karbodin LLC, a subsidiary of Metadynea CJSC, Dynea Chemicals Oy corporation and the Russian company Karbolit OJSC. In the period from 2006 to 2010, production here increased significantly. A broad product line was developed for consumers, providing a wide range of resin grades for different industries. For further development of the production in Metadynea CJSC, in 2007 the contract for the purchase of a concentrated formalin production plant with a capacity of 67 thousand tons per year was signed with PERSTORP (Sweden). In 2010, this project was successfully completed and the first batch of the product was produced. Expanding the range of products using Dynea technology, in April 2012, Metadynea launched the production of impregnating resins in Orekhovo-Zuevo.

In 2012, the company was transformed into a limited liability company, and Metafrax OJSC became the sole founder of Metadynea. In virtue of the reorganization of the Dynea concern, the Finnish company Dynea Chemicals Oy withdrew from the joint venture, but continued to provide technical support for the production in Russia until 2017.

In 2013, Karbodin LLC as well as the new production of novolac resins and pulver bakelite with a total design capacity of 7,200 tons per year, commissioned in 2011, were joined to Metadynea LLC. The authorized capital of Metadynea increased from 240 million up to 1 billion rubles.

From 2014 until the present, a significant expansion of the production capacities and infrastructure of both sites in Russia continues. In Orekhovo-Zuevo, warehouses for raw materials and finished products were commissioned, the first syntheses of urea formaldehyde resins were carried out in new reactors, and the second formalin production plant with a capacity of 90 thousand tons per year was put into operation.

In Gubakha, the third reactor with a volume of 45 cubic meters was commissioned and the infrastructure for the production of phenol-formaldehyde resins was expanded. The large-scale reconstruction of the site infrastructure was carried out, the new water circulation system was put into operation, which fully supplies the production of resins with sufficient amount of water for the technological process and the finished products’ cooling. As part of the project, a fan cooling tower was installed and the adjacent infrastructure was organized.

Today, Metadynea is two modern production sites in Orekhovo-Zuevo and in Gubakha, and a front office in Moscow. The company steadily holds leadership in the synthetic resin market. The company's resin product line is constantly expanding in accordance with market demands.

Metadynea has become not only the largest taxpayer of Orekhovo-Zuevo, but also an active participant in the public life of the regions of its presence, going beyond its core activities. The company implements charity projects aimed to support people in difficult life situations, as well as educational initiatives that promote staff development and active cooperation with specialist and ordinary schools.
